Spring Break. A short, yet wonderful week that comes around once a year. Like almost every other human on Spring Break in Utah, I also travelled to the glorious land of California. We nearly didn't go because Chase almost couldn't stand the thought of missing one day's worth of money, but we realized we would still be poor if we didn't go. Instead, we had a rad time doing things us Utah folk don't get to do that often. Plus, we went with my family and my cousin and his family, which is always a good time.
We stayed in California for three nights; different hotels each night. The reason why we ditched our first hotel? My cousin decided we were better than the Comfort Inn so he said let's go find somewhere on Coronado Island. The reason why we ditched our second hotel? It's spring break. Every hotel on that island was booked (except for the one inn that had one more room where all 13 of us considered sleeping all in it together). After hours of searching we found the Harborview Inn and Suites in downtown San Diego. Doesn't sound too shabby right? Wrong. It could have been mistaken for the Tower of Terror. If I didn't feel like I was getting bed bugs in the last hotel, I genuinely did at this one. Jill and my cousin did attempt to take pictures that made it look like there were ghosts in the hall, but Jill is a party pooper and deleted them. Finally, for the last night, we travelled north of San Diego where my other cousin lives and we stayed in a Marriot. I felt like the classiest human compared to the other hotels we slept in.
On the first day, we went to a private beach on Coronado. There was freezing water that I couldn't even dip my toe in, good times attempting to build a legit sand castle, warm weather, and NO BATHROOMS. We got into this private beach thanks to my cousin and dad. They are building a house in St.G for a guy who has a time share on this private resort, and we got passes from him. Along the beaches, there are private pools that you need a key for. You also need a key to go to the bathroom. I did not have a key. Chase and I looked for a bathroom that didn't require a key for over an hour. I was very close to going in a bush because getting in that ice cold water was out of the question. Finally, Chase worked his magic by pretending to be a gentleman (even though he really is one) and held the door open to the private pool for some lady. And I finally found a bathroom.
On the second day in San Diego, we went to the magical land of SeaWorld. Sea animals fascinate me so this was a good time. We rode a rollercoaster several times and did a couple wet rides. Then we went to the Shamu Stadium (BTW, if you haven't watched BlackFish, watch it) where all of us, minus the parents, got soaked. That's when we decided we were getting cold and thought it would be a good idea to go get in the human blow dryer for $5. It did nothing, but make my hair so frizzy/poofy/short/curly, you'd think I was trying the afro look.
Lastly, our final day was spent bumming around the mall, eating Cheesecake Factory, and going to the Dana Point Marina to check out all the yachts. There was one yacht that was "on Sale" with a discount of $160,000. I can't even imagine how much it is with a discount so large. Yikes. Anyway, lots of laughs and memories made this trip. It was most definitely worth going!
